Cell Phone GPS To The Rescue

The impact of September 11, 2001 helped require every cell phone to have emergency tracking capabilities, as determined by the Federal Communications Commission. The information must be able to track a cell phone within 100 meters or less. In order to meet the demands of cell phone GPS, cellular phone companies decided to integrate the GPS technology into the phones instead of in their transmission towers.

Not every cell phone GPS provides the user with the global positioning system and on most phones it is only activated when a 911 call is made. This can help direct emergency personnel to the person needing the help considerably quicker than relying on information provided by the user to the cell phone provider. If a person moves and does not change their address with the provider in a timely manner, emergency services could be sent to a wrong address.

Additionally, a person on the road using their cell phone GPS to call for help can direct the emergency responders to their current location, a common frustration among police and fire departments during the first years of cell phone use. With cell phone being used virtually anywhere, finding the location of a person in need of help can be shortened considerably when they use cell phone GPS technology.

Privacy Is Concern Over GPS Technology
For many cell phone users, the thought of someone being able to track then down by using their cell phone GPS is considered a violation of privacy, and according to the country’s privacy laws, it is. A person cannot be legally tracked by their cell phone GPS unless they give their permission. With the GPS systems built into most new cell phones, their locator signal becomes active when the 911 service is contacted.

Most unit-to-unit tracking by using a cell phone GPS service is confined to movies and television. Where the hero is using a screen to keep track of a person with a cell phone GPS unit in their pocket. Under current privacy laws this should never happen in real life, despite the capabilities allegedly being available.

Prior to cell phone GPS technology being included in al phones, the last known position of a phone call was based on reports from the cell phone tower accessed by the caller. This only narrowed the service down slightly, considering the amount of area covered by most cell towers. By using cell phone GPS technology, emergency responders can have much less of an area to cover when looking for someone needing help.

The fact that cell phones have GPS tracking capability makes the lives of several individuals much easier. Here are some of the benefits of using cell phone GPS as a tracking tool.

Say that a parent needs to locate a child. The cell phone GPS technology allows for this. No more will the parent have to be concerned of the whereabouts of the child as technology allows for easy tracking.

The same can be done for someone who is elderly. Should the elderly one suffer from a disorder that causes dementia, and they wonder off and become disoriented, you could easily track them down and return them home where they are safe and sound.

Tracking a person’s whereabouts can be done in three ways. The first way is through the use of maps on the cell phone provider’s web site. The second way is through calling the provider’s call center and asking of the last locations of the person you are trying to track. And, the third way is called mobile to mobile tracking. This is when you have a cell phone, and you have technology that is able to track the cell phone of the other person. Whichever way you decide to choose, it is easy.

Should you be a parent with a teenage driver who has just received their driver’s license, you could go with a certain cell phone company that provides alerts when the speed limit is exceeded. These alerts can be sent in the form of SMS messages or emails. GPS tracking devices has now made the lives of parents and caregivers practically worry free.!

Track Your Kids with Cell Phone GPS

Are you constantly worried about the safety of your children? Would you like to know where they are anytime at a touch of a button?

GPS TrackerWith the GPS tracking capability built into your cell phone, you could easily take advantage of it to do this. As you already know, your GPS tracker will allow you to get directions and locations easily. You can use the cell phone GPS tracking system in it to get directions to where you are going, or to pinpoint your location.
Unfortunately, although the hardware is built into your phone, the software isn’t. Cell phone GPS tracking usually requires that you subscribe to a service of some kind through your cell phone provider, and it’s a premium service that you have to pay for. There are software packages that you can purchase for a few phones that get around the service charges, but they don’t work with many of the available cell phones.

More importantly, You can also use the cell phone GPS tracking capability in a cell phone to track the people who have the cell phones. You can buy a software package for some cell phones that allows you to keep track of them from your home or office PC. Cell phone GPS tracking is increasingly popular with parents who want to keep track of their kids. Using this technology, the parents can check on their kids’ locations (or at least their cell phones’ locations) anytime from their home or office PC.

The vendors of this software warn that it is not legal to use the software on other peoples’ cell phones. It is only to be used on your family’s phones.

Keeping track of your kids any way you can is always a good idea, but there are a couple of problems with cell phone GPS tracking.

First of all, it’s easy to see how the technology could be abused. It won’t take some techie ten minutes to figure out how to track your cell phone or mine instead of his kid’s. It does represent an invasion of privacy. (Kids don’t always need all the privacy they want, of course.)

Secondly, it’s easy to see how a kid could ditch his or her cell phone in order to keep Mom or Dad from finding out where he or she really is. Not only is that deceptive, but it could be dangerous, because your kid doesn’t have a way to call for help if she needs it.

Using cell phone GPS tracking is a good way to keep track of your kids. It’s probably best to use it along with open, honest communication about why you want to keep track of them, though.
