Using A GPS Fish Finder
August 25th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedFor starters, a GPS fish finder doesn’t find fish.
At least, the GPS Fish Finder part of it doesn’t. I mean, it finds fish, but not with the GPS. So what it do?
Well, a GPS Fish Finder tells you where you are. That’s it. Nothing else. It just gives you your exact location.
Well, you can mark locations, too, and it will give you directions from one location to another. That’s kind of handy.
How is that handy, you ask? Well, once you find that sturgeon, you can mark its location with the GPS fish finder, so that you can find your way back to the same place again. Maybe there will be another sturgeon there. It’s also handy if you get lost. You know, when you get out in the middle of a big lake, all the bays and coves look pretty much the same. And if you’re a bit directionally challenged, you can get lost. And once you get lost on a lake, the only thing to do is head toward shore and circle the lake until you find something that looks familiar. Or get tired or run out of gas. And then you just float there until someone finds you.
If you have a GPS Fish Finder, though, you can mark the dock when you leave it, and then you can easily find your way back home. I guess a GPS fish finder has its uses after all. Even if it can’t find the dang fish without sonar.

Lowrance GPS Electronics
July 15th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedLowrance Electronics is an innovative, booming company in the United States that designs, manufactures and sells GPS, aircraft and sonar equipment. GPS and Lowrance have been partners for a few years now, but it was sonar that founder Carl Lowrance dedicated his time and dreams toward in the beginning. As an avid fisherman, Carl Lowrance discovered using sonar to locate schools of fish made catching them almost a guarantee.
In 1959, they introduced the “Little Green Box” to the world. This portable sonar unit quickly became the most popular, literally, in the world. The operation was moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Lowrance business worked tirelessly to keep up with the demands of the market. Lowrance Electronics and GPS technology would find each other soon enough. The first automatic depth sounder made its way to the stage in 1979. Their first Liquid Crystal Graph stormed the market in 1985.
In 1991 the first Lowrance GPS receiving devices were unveiled. By infusing its own uniqueness with Rockwell GPS, Lowrance Electronics gave the market another amazing product like nothing else the competition could even dream up.
Not even five years passed before Lowrance Electronics was shocking and wowing the crowds once again. In 1996, Lowrance dazzled them with a 12 channel hand-held GPS unit. The best part was the price; well under $200. By the next year Lowrance was taking GPS to new heights with a hand-held sized GPS aviation unit. Complete with full mapping capabilities, this bad boy was a first in the industry. Lowrance also introduced GPS mapping cartridges, making it possible to see all lakes, ponds, and rivers in the continental United States. More hand held GPS accessories and mapping software products were released in years following.
